“We made hard work of the win” - Wilson

Rob Wilson saw his side reach the Knockout Cup semi finals for the first time with a penalty shots success over Edinburgh Capitals, but admitted to the website that the Vipers did it the hard way.

“We never seem to do anything straightforward,” Wilson said after the game.  “We had the lead on the night and we should have been comfortable.

“But in true Vipers style it goes to overtime and penalties before we get the win.

“Overall across the weekend I feel we deserved to progress, we were very much on top at home and only Pasi prevented us from having a bigger margin.  Tonight should have been a solid road game to close out the tie, but we’re through and can look forward to a semi final.”

The side will return to League action next weekend with a home game against Manchester (Saturday, 6.30pm) before a trip to Hull on Sunday.

“We’ll enjoy the win then it’s back to the bread and butter next week with two games which are definitely winnable.  Ed Courtenay comes back early in the week, we should have some news on Burt this week too, so it’s a case of getting bodies back into the lineup.”

On the departure of Todd Griffith, Wilson said: “Griff will be a miss on our forward lines; he’s got great speed and a wicked wrist shot which caught many goalies by surprise.  But he’s a young kid and feels he’ll be more comfortable at home, and he has a couple of options with teams there which can help his career.”
