Panthers 6 Vipers 3

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

The Panthers put themselves right back in the mix with this win over Mincoffs Vipers thanks mainly to a second period surge that them score four times but for Vipers it’s now six straight league losses.

The gloves were off after only twelve seconds as Andre Payette and Rumum Ndur went for it and then at 4.45 we had bout number two with Derek Campbell and Kevin Bergin renewing acquaintances.

It was the visitors who took the lead however at 7.57 with Ed Courtenay (3rd) scoring but Panthers were level by the end of the period thanks to a strike by Johan Molin (11th) at 17.44.

The home side took charge in the middle period, hitting home the advantage quickly as goals by Dan Tessier (10th, 11th) at 20.52 and again at 22.18 saw them 3-1 ahead.  Matt Myers (5th) added a fourth at 25.06 on the powerplay  before Courtenay (4th) managed to pull one back at 34.10.  The Panthers had the last say in the period however and at 39.14 another powerplay counter by David Clarke (17th) made it 5-2.

Although Vipers gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Todd Griffiths (12th) scored at 49.08 they could get no closer and Panthers rounded off the scoring at 59.30 with an empty net goal by Molin (12th).

It’s going to be tough!

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Well this weekend we have two really tough road games against the Nottingham Panthers and the Coventry Blaze. With Sheffield going top I expect both teams to be wanting to get wins to stay in contention with Sheffield, but all we have to do is go out there and play our game and look after ourselves.

Yesterday Nottingham announced that they signed Michel Robinson. This year I have scored a couple of goals against him and hopefully I will be able to add to that this Saturday.

I’ve been happy with my personal performances in the last few games, getting the 2 goals against Sheffield on Saturday was great but I should of had 3 which I am slightly gutted about.

The coach has been pretty good to us “kids” this season, giving us plenty of ice time and I feel myself and the others like Jez, Dean and Tynsley are really developing and making our game so much better.

As a young player at the Vipers our time is mainly spent between practice and the gym, we get there as much as we can but we also have part time jobs but the Vipers offer us a great opportunity to play the game we love and hopefully we can make a proper career out of it like Brits such as Lobby and Shaun Johnson. When we are not playing, training or working we help out with the school programme going around schools and teaching hockey skills through ball hockey and doing school assembly visits.

Anyway we look forward to seeing you all at Nottingham and Coventry this weekend.

Ben Campbell.
